smile because it happened

One of my students gave me the sweetest card today that said:
“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” – Dr. Seuss

It seriously brought tears to my eyes.
Even though I am looping with the same class to second grade,
I am sad to see this chapter of my life close.
I am sappy like that.
My first year teaching is going to be over tomorrow and I can’t believe it.
Everyone said my first year would be hard as hell and horrible.
I couldn’t disagree more. Sure it was hard, but it was far from horrible.
I loved every minute. Every moment. Every snotty nose.
I would do it all again in a heartbeat (including all my stressful days and breakdowns).
I love being a teacher and spending my days with seven year olds.
After a week of summer vacation, I am sure I will be missing them like crazy.
Here is to a great year!
